Yoga and Meditation

Yoga practice involves breath, body, and mind.  Hatha Yoga classes generally start with a gentle warm-up, advance to more physical poses, and end with a short meditation.

Yin Yoga is a meditative approach and emphasizes breathwork to help control the mind.  Long held postures apply moderate stress to the connective tissue of the body with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility.

Meditation is a means of transforming the mind and experiencing a deeper level of awareness.  Meditation techniques help achieve an emotionally calm stable state.

Yoga has a positive impact on phsycial and mental health. It helps improve strength, balance and flexibility while also improving psychological measures related to stress.

Meditation gives you a sense of calm, peace and balance that can benefit both your emotional well-being and your overall health. The practice helps improve focus, attention, self-esteem and self-awareness.

  • Breathing meditation

  • Is Yoga right for me?
Yoga is a great way to stretch, strengthen and relax. However, there are many different kinds of yoga and levels of skill. Yoga can be tailored to your needs and it helps to work with an experienced instructor.
  • What if i can’t do a pose?
It is all about taking baby steps! You should listen to your body and do not try to force yourself into a pose under any circumstance. Ask the instructor for a modification if one is not offered.
  • Is Yoga a religion?
No. Yoga is a philosophy, not a religion, though it does have a spiritual component. You should practice with an open mind and think about the health benefits. Practicing yoga is a wonderful way to cultivate an awareness and understanding of yourself.
  • Do i need to bring anything?
As part of personal hygiene, it is always a good idea to bring your own mat. You may also bring a small towel and a water bottle.
  • What is the best time to do yoga?
Find a time that works for you. The morning is a great time to practice; you might feel energized for the rest of the day. In the evening, a more relaxing yoga practice can be a nice way to unwind after work.
  • What is Yin Yoga?
Yin Yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga, incorporating principles of traditional Chinese medicine, with asanas that are held for longer periods of time than in other styles. Yin yoga targets your deep connective tissues, like your fascia, ligaments, joints, and bones. Stretching and deepening into poses help to open up any blockages and facilitates in free flow of energy.
  • What is Mantra meditation?
Mantra is a Sanskrit term, with “man” meaning “mind” and “tra” meaning “release.” This is a common and beloved meditation practice where a word or a phrase such as "Waheguru" or "Om" is repeated. Mantra meditation helps keep the mind focused and serves as a vehicle to reach higher states of consciousness.
  • What is mindful meditation?
Mindfulness is a type of meditation in which you focus on being present in the moment. It helps you become intensely aware of what you're sensing and feeling in the moment, without interpretation or judgment. Practicing mindfulness involves breathing methods, guided imagery, and other practices to relax the body and mind. Once you experience the stillness, happiness comes.
  • What is the best time to meditate?
Find a time that works for you. The morning time is ususally recommended for the practice since the mind is fresh.
  • How long should I meditate?
Start the practice with a shorter duration such as 2 minutes. Increase the time little by little to make it a habit. Meditation takes patience, but it’s very effective. I also recommend a daily habit, as opposed to twice a week, or just on weekends.
  • What do I need to get started?
If you choose to sit on the ground, you may need a mat. You may also sit on a chair of lie down. Just make sure to choose peaceful surroundings so you can focus and gain a deeper understanding of yourself. Developing a regular meditation practice can help to quiet that chattering mind, often referred as, “monkey mind”.
  • What is body scan meditation?
A body scan meditation is a type of meditation where you focus on the sensations in your body. During a body scan meditation, you'll notice how each body part feels emotionally and physcially, from your toes up through your legs, chest, arms, and head. The benefits of body scan meditation include managing chronic pain and tensions in the muscles, reducing anxiety or stress, and getting better sleep.
